CALVARY WELCOMES KIDS!
We recognize that God put the wiggle in children. All are welcome in God's house. Spiritual roots require careful cultivation and fully inclusive spaces. The best people positioned to tend the soil of the lives of children are their parents. That’s why at Calvary we develop children's programming that seeks to cultivate spaces that tend the faith lives of the entire household.
We plan to launch an updated and prepared children's ministry in the Fall of 2024. Our ministry will focus on the following:.
Strengthening worship and prayer practices that attend to and respect how children experience God and express their faith.
- Welcoming children at the altar during the Eucharist.
Enhancing worship and prayer practices that are more fully inclusive of all children, including children with disabilities.
- Spaces that include non-traditional furniture; spaces with soft and quiet sensory toys for parents and children.
Drawing more fully on the arts (e.g., music, visual arts, drama, etc.) to enhance the experience of worship and prayer for children.
- Hiring a music director who can provide worship opportunities through song for our children.
- Updated materials to incorporate art into Christian formation.
Creating opportunities for Bible storytelling to help children hear and tell stories of faith through worship and prayer practices.
- Implementing “Godly Play” instruction and curriculum, a program developed by an Episcopal priest, Dr. Jerome Berryman, who drew from Montessori practices.
- Live nativity event.
Enhancing worship and prayer practices that more intentionally connect worship with the daily lives of children and their families.
- Lent-To-Go and Advent-To-Go bags.
- Daily Office materials to take home for a variety of ages.
- Encouraging families to have their kids attend Shrine Mont Camps
